Ground Staff Arrested at Bengaluru Airport After Alleged Sexual Assault of Korean National
A ground staff member at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a South Korean woman. The accused, an employee of Air India SATS, reportedly misled the traveler during a fake security check. Following a review of CCTV footage and the victim's complaint, the staffer was terminated and handed over to the police.
According to the victim's formal complaint, the ordeal began shortly after she had cleared immigration and was proceeding toward her boarding gate for a flight back to Korea. Affan reportedly intercepted her, requesting to inspect her travel documents. He allegedly misled the passenger by claiming that her checked luggage had triggered a security alarm and required immediate verification. Exploiting the traveler’s fear of missing her flight, the staffer reportedly advised against returning to the standard screening counters, suggesting that a "separate check" would be more efficient.
The situation took a predatory turn when the accused led the woman to a secluded area near a men’s restroom. Despite her vocal objections and visible resistance, Affan allegedly subjected her to an inappropriate physical search. The complaint further details that as the victim attempted to push him away, the accused proceeded to hug her and offer a casual "thank you" before fleeing the scene. The survivor immediately alerted airport security officials, who acted swiftly to detain the suspect and review surveillance footage. Police sources confirmed that CCTV recordings corroborated the victim’s account, leading to Affan's formal arrest under relevant sections of the law
In the wake of the arrest, Air India SATS issued a stern statement condemning the staffer’s actions as "unpardonable." The company confirmed that Affan’s employment was terminated with immediate effect and that they are cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation. "We deeply regret the emotional distress caused and have extended all necessary support to the guest," the statement read, adding that a comprehensive internal inquiry is being conducted to bolster safeguards and prevent similar security breaches. This incident highlights a critical lapse in the oversight of airport personnel and underscores the vulnerability of international travelers to predatory tactics by those in positions of perceived authority
